SmartCenter ties it all together by providing a taskbar using a filecabinet metaphor allowing easy access to your SmartSuite applications, personal and corporate Internet sites, messaging and other business applications and templates. You can dock the SmartCenter at the top or bottom of your screen. The reminder drawer allows you to check notes and you can dock these anywhere on your desktop. It also provides access to the dictionary, thesaurus, appointment calendar and your Internet bookmarks. Across the board you're presented with an intuitive user interface so tasks and commands are similar from one application to another. Each button on the interface includes a small "bubble box" when you drag your mouse pointer over it to give you a quick explanation as to its use. This is great for cutting the learning curve for new users. Developers and application specialists can customize features across all applications using Lotus Script. It also provides support for most other standards such as C++, OLE2 for cross-application development.
Basics1-2-3 is still backward compatible to version 1.0 Some of the new features include an auto-total shortcut which incorporates the all-sum feature without having to build it out. My personal favorite is the ability to perform a discontinuous range selection of rows and columns. One can also do seamless file and table transfers to the web. The geo-mapping function is much faster than in previous releases.Approach lets you set up your own database in most any format. It also permits you to publish from that database directly to the net. It includes support for Dbase, FoxPro, Paradox, Access, and Sybase SQL. Organizer is the leading time-management solution, including the calendar, to do list, planner, address book, anniversary and notes sections. . The SmartSuite Internet links are available here as well as all other applications and it is integrated with cc:mail and Lotus Notes (If installed separately.) Freelance Graphics presentation manager allows you to build slideshow presentations from your 1-2-3, Approach and WordPro data files. ScreenCam has a record/playback feature which will allow you to record all on-screen activities and simultaneously include your own voice narration to build various tutorials or instruction sets. WordPro is not only a full-featured word processor, you can now use it for seamless web publishing with no html encoding. It is all WYSIWYG. Additional updates include smart referencing which allows you to create cross references within a document citing section or page automatically. If you change the format of your document which affects what page a certain text is on, the reference is automatically corrected. Other features added include drop caps, frame linking, watermarks, auto printing in booklet form, editing in print preview (nice) and linking into Lotus Notes. Overall, it is an impressive package.
